Where to cycle in the Tarn?

Gaillac is fortunate to border the V85 cycle route, which is part of the national cycle route network. Gaillac is on the Albi-Saint Sulpice section. This flat stretch runs alongside the Tarn on well-marked secondary roads. You can admire flamboyant red towns, dovecotes and exceptional landscapes:

travel south of France
  • Albi: Heading east, you’ll reach Albi in around 1 hour 15 minutes, covering a good 20 kilometres. Albi is an episcopal city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A visit to Albi is a must! You can choose to return to the Hôtel Particulier Delga by bike or by train, as many trains run between our two towns and are open to bikes.
  • Montans: Heading south, a 5km, 1/4-hour cycle ride will take you to Montans, a site occupied since prehistoric times, where you can visit the archaeosite and museum. During the Roman Empire, Montans was one of the main centres for the production of fine, high-quality tableware, characterised by its red glaze and colour.
  • L’isle-sur-Tarn: 40 minutes by bike and 11 km from Gaillac, this 13th-century port town boasts one of the largest square squares in the south-west. L’isle sur Tarn was once a stronghold of the wine and woad trade. Today, the town has preserved its corbelled houses and bridges. A visit by bike is a must!
  • Rabastens: 1 hour 05 minutes by bike and 19 km away, Rabastens is a magnificent red-brick town. It has retained its tradition as a holiday resort and residence in the Toulouse hinterland. Rabastens is also a former stopover on the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela. As early as 1240, a hospital was set up in the castle district. The old road between Lyon and Toulouse is still used by pilgrims.
  • Saint-Sulpice-La-Pointe: 1h30 and 25km separate us from Saint-Sulpice. Founded in 1247 by Sicard d’Alaman, adviser to Raymond VII, Saint-Sulpice, situated at the confluence of the Tarn and Agout rivers, bears witness to a rich historical past. The ruins of the Castéla castle and the underground passageway are a must-see.
Here’s something to whet your appetite for slow or cycle tourism. The Hôtel Particulier Delga adapts to ensure that your cycle tours take place in the best possible conditions. If you’re travelling by bike, we can accommodate your bike!
If you’re travelling without a bike and want to hire one on the spot, you can put your trust in our neighbours at La Bonne échapée. We highly recommend them!
