How do I plan my holiday in the South West?

It’s decided, you’re going on holiday to the South West! Already a favourite with discerning northern Europeans, the destination is still protected from mass tourism and the damage it causes.

That said, coming on holiday to these places blessed by nature and rich in heritage does require a little preparation, so you don’t have to come back too soon to continue the adventure. For those of you reading this message too late, don’t worry, we’ll be able to give you the very best advice on the spot!

So here are our top tips for preparing for your holiday:

  1. Choose your main type of holiday: Farniente, Sportive, Cultural, Gourmet, Adventurous, Country, Urban… In short, from the Hôtel Delga, you can do it all, but not at the same time! Try not to choose more than 2 or 3 types if you’re only staying for a week. For each type of holiday, you can choose from the many suggestions detailed on our site and on the very well-done site of the Tarn tourist office.
  2. Don’t multiply your accommodation. Living in the South West also means taking your time. So if you have to live between check-in and check-out times, it’s likely to weigh heavily on your holiday and deprive you of part of the “South-West” experience. The Hôtel Delga is the ideal HQ for your holiday. An emblematic town house, it will take you back to the town’s heyday. And Gaillac is particularly well placed to enjoy the region to the full!
  3. Prepare to eat well: The South-West is a great gastronomic destination. Gaillac has a wealth of restaurants, including around twenty within walking distance of the Hôtel Delga. Bistronomic, popular, cuisine from elsewhere, wine bar, vegetarian… all the gastronomic riches of our country are available in Gaillac. Coming to the Hôtel Delga also means preparing to eat well, and that’s good for you. The Hôtel Delga has also thought of those who wish to push the experience as far as cooking themselves the good local products, including those from the renowned Gaillac market. The summer kitchen is available for this purpose and it also allows you to cook dishes adapted to those with special dietary restrictions.
  4. Pack your bags well: The hotel has plenty of contacts to get you into all the activities of your choice. But you still need to have the right items with you. In summer, we recommend that you bring good walking/hiking shoes, road bikes or mountain bikes for those who have them, sunglasses, headgear (caps, hats, etc.), a water bottle, short and long light clothes, a rucksack, more formal clothes for going out to eat and, of course, your swimming costume for relaxing in the Hôtel Particulier swimming pool. In winter, our small medieval villages take on a mystical and mysterious atmosphere that is hard to describe, but not to be missed. We recommend that you bring walking shoes, warm multi-purpose clothing and protection from the rain, if necessary.
  5. Do some reading: The history of the region is often overlooked, but it is nonetheless very rich. From prehistoric times to the present day, the region has seen the first people settle in caves, others build medieval villages, wars of religion, social revolts with Jean Jaurès, and so on. So don’t hesitate to immerse yourself in this historical heritage through books!
